Paula Cooper-Tipton, Aquatics Coordinator
Community Services Department

Due to the directive issued by the State of California, Contra Costa County and the City of Richmond regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19), our department will be closed until further notice. Please note that during this time e-mail and voicemail sent to staff will be checked intermittently.

Although outdoor pools are allowed to open, our pools are indoors and are therefore not allowed to open yet. Contra Costa County is in the State's "Red" tier due to high Covid testing rates. Once we are moved into the "Orange" tier, the county health department will consider opening indoor pools. When they make that decision, we will update this website and post our opening date - it will likely be about 2 weeks after we receive notice, so we have time to check which of our furloughed staff are available to work, provide virtual and in-person training on new rescue techniques and new operational procedures.

If you would like to receive email updates about City of Richmond pools, please email your first and last name to

Pool Rules
Please read and become familiar with the pool rules before your first visit to be sure you are prepared. If you have any questions, please ask our staff.

The following is for informational purposes to get an idea of what is to come when we open. THIS IS NOT FOR CURRENT POOL USE, AS THE POOLS ARE NOT OPEN YET.

We hire LIFEGUARDS year-round!
