home for their second campus.
The
City of Richmond is one of the finalists to host the Lawrence
Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) Second Campus at the UC
Berkeley Richmond Field Station site. This is an unparalleled
opportunity to bring green jobs, economic development, and countless
other benefits to the Richmond community.
As part of the
selection process, the City hosted a welcoming reception and town
hall meeting on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at the
Richmond Auditorium (video above).

On February 1, 2011, the Richmond City Council voted 7-0 to allow the
City Manager to submit a proposal to the University of California,
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) Request for Qualifications
for a second campus. More than 20 representatives of key Richmond
stakeholders spoke in support of the City's proposal as a promising
economic catalyst for Richmond, including representatives from various
green technology companies, Contra Costa Building Trades, Richmond
Chamber of Commerce, Council of Industries, and Richmond Progressive
Alliance.
