TRAC WINS CALIFORNIA STATE
COASTAL CONSERVANCY GRANT FOR FEASIBILITY STUDY ON CREATING
OPEN SPACE
Study will focus on western half of the San Pablo Peninsula
Trails
for Richmond Action Committee (TRAC) has been awarded a
$100,000 grant by the California State Coastal Conservancy for
a study on the feasibility of creating an open space, regional
park, and/or recreational area on the western half of the San
Pablo Peninsula. The $210,000 study is co-sponsored by the
City of Richmond ($40.000), East Bay Regional Park District
($40,000) and the Muir Heritage Land Trust ($30,000).
The focus of the study will be on lands north and south of
Point Molate Naval Fuel Depot. The project is intended to
complement the City's existing Reuse Plan which calls for the
majority of the Point Molate property to remain as open space
while developing appropriate areas, particularly the Winehaven
campus, for commercial uses. Requests for Proposals (RFP) have
been sent out for consultant proposals to launch the study.
The Bay Trail is planned to run along the entire five miles of
shoreline from the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge to the Point San
Pablo Yacht Club.
