Richmond High Speaks Up!

RICHMOND HIGH SPEAKS UP! is a monthly 30- minute television program that brings Richmond High issues to the community.

Richmond High School students - under the direction of experienced media professionals - research, write, direct, shoot, edit and produce all aspects of the program to share their perspectives on issues of importance to them.

The program provides a critically important communications hub where both Richmond High students and staff open an interactive dialog with the community on key school issues.   It also provides a training ground where students learn to create relevant community television around issues of their greatest concerns.

The program is produced b the non-profit Richmond Youth Media Project.  Started as an extension of Richmond High School’s Multimedia Academy, the project is open to all young people from Richmond and West Contra Costa County.

There are three goals in using the art of video production as an educational tool.

  • For the youth of Richmond and West Contra Costa County to learn to create outstanding video and other digital media programs about themselves and their communities.

  • To strengthen the ability of our underserved and often unheard young people to express their hopes, needs and concerns through video and digital media.

  • To help students learn the business skills necessary to prosper in professional work environments irrespective of the line-of-work they ultimately choose.
